Carpinus orinentalis No.1

This is oriental hornbeam which was part of trade with Walter Pall in 2010. One of my trees traveled with WP to his garden from his workshop in Slovakia and during my trip on Late summer meeting this oriental hornbeam traveled back to my garden.
It is good species and horticulturaly it seems to be fine for our climate, it survived successfully 2 winters in my place already and conditions was harsh, temperatures fell below -20°C in both winters.  Tree is growing nicely, creating nice little leaves. From design point of view this particular tree is not easy for me. Fortunately Walter helped me with it when I was making decisions about basic structures in sumer 2011 during his visit at my place in Spring 2011. Some branches where then shorten and clearly unnecessary parts where removed. During this winter tree was wired almost completely. It is now growing happily so it was time today to cutback this year growth. Tree was than feed with dose of Osmocote and with bat guano.

Strom rastie pekne a vytvára krásne malé lístky a jemné konáriky.

Hornbeam forest

This tree is in my garden from spring 2009. It was repotted in spring last year into concrete training pot made by my friend Vincent Vadovský. During this winter, in December 2011 it was wired completely. It was quite a lot of wiring, despite ramification is far from being good.

I made few pictures of my first cornus. It looks very healthy and it is producing a lot of buds in the crown so I hope it will help to improve ramification this season. Growth just above nebari is there just as trial to make few new rots this season to improve nebari.
Dnes som urobil pár fotiek môjej pervej drienky. Vyzerá túto jar veľmi zdravo a vytvára mnoho pukov na starom dreve takže to by v tejto sezóne mohlo pomôcť so zahustením koruny.

Birch No.1

This is my one and only Birch so far. It was collected exactly 2 years ago in March 2010. During this weekend it was potted into nice pot from Juraj Homola. It was potted in almost pure zeolith 2.5-5mm as you can see on one of pictures it created enormous amount of fiber roots. It has long way to go but I like it a lot already.

Juniperus communis No.3 in new pot

During weekend I potted juniper in new temporary pot from Vincent Vadovsky made of concrete. Tree was collected in 2009. Nothing dramatic has been done so far, only shortening long branches for bringing green closer to the trunk.

End of winter protection

Today was warm and sunny day. Just about time to end up winter protection. Trees started to swell buds, one cornus is in flower already, larix is showing green needles. Best time of year of bonsai amateur is here. From now on every day something new will appear in garden.
Dnes bol teplý a slnečný deň, výborná príležitosť zrušiť zimovanie stromov a dať ich opäť na police. Bolo načase, puky sa nalievajú, drienka už zakvitla, smrekovce začínajú ukazovať zelené ihličie.  Pre pestovateľa bonsai začína najkrajšie obdobie roka, keď každý deň objaví na záhrade niečo nové.
