Tilia cordata No.2 "Josephine"

Last night I was working a little bit on this small-leaved lime tree. One dry branch, few cuts here and there. There are still a few wired branches since autumn and it stays there for a couple of weeks. Some wire will be applied later on a few branches.
If you are right now hidden in your underground bunker and you are thinking about acquiring new hobby when everything returns back to normal maybe bonsai is for you. It is really not that hard. A plant like this could be bought for 50 cents, this one was worth 50 cents 10 years ago. You just need to water it every day, feed it 3-10 times a year, and it grows alone. When it has too many branches you remove unnecessary stuff and that's it. Go for it.

Tilia id growing very strongly so I had to cut the top of the crown already. The tree is slightly wired, just to edit branch position into bit better positions. Which is quite easy with tilia due to soft wood of the branches. Too much growth at the top of the crown was shading inner parts already and I would like to have couple more branches from new buds inside the crown, so I have to balance it. I did not touch lover parts so more growth will help gain girth at particular branches. Now foliage is of fantastic colours, we have great weather for bonsai in the last few days. Rain, not too much sun, 10 °C to 20°C. Tress love it, now it is the time for them to grow like weeds.
BTW this tree is from pencil thick nursery tree, grown in the field for few years, it is much harder to achieve visual maturity with this kind of raw material.

Tilia cordata "Daria"

Linden doing good so far this year. A lot of growth which has to be reduced to allow light get to the inner crown to prevent dieback. For comparison, there are two pictures from the beggining of April.

Tilia cordata "Daria"

Seems like on Friday was the last day of long-lasting summer this year. It was hot weather since April and there were rarely days below 25°C, and probably a record number of days above 30°C. The foliage of the trees got its share of damage, but taking into consideration all circumstances it is not so bad at the end.
Om this linden I'm reworking inner part of the crown and it will take some time to look good again but it was necessary. There was nice moss cover of the soil but during the holiday I uncovered protecting mesh to allow more water to reach surface and birds did its job done.

This small leaved lime was repotted in March this year into the pot which proved to be too small. I knew that at that time but tree needed repotting desperately, I needed more space on benches and tried to get rid of them as much of the plastic bowls as possible. So I went for it. I had no other more suitable pot back then. Fortunately, a couple of weeks later bunch of pots found its way to my garden. I didn't want to disturb the tree too soon after the repotting, so I gave it time to reestablish its forces. Now, I had the time and weather was good, temperatures dropped down to 20 something degrees. I did not disturb the roots at all so an operation was rather safe.

Hey, after the work I went for a run and had an idea with the name for the tree, from now on I will call her Josephine.

The advantage of squeezing tree into the small pot is sometimes leaf size reduction. Certainly works with limes. This one is having leaves of the half size compared to previous year. Definitely smaller than my second lime.
