Quercus pubescens No.4
Few weeks ago I aquired couple of pots from Tomas Snovicky. One of them was standing on shelf waiting for right tree. This oak needed reporting long time ago, but honestly there was no good pot in spring and no time at all. So few days ago I took oak from old plastic pot where it was for few years already. I removed very little roots and fixed tree into this new ceramic pot. I wait until late spring 2018 and then do a root work again and plant it deeper and probably decrease inclination of the tree.

It is more than one year since last post about this oak. As you can see on last year picture tree was sitting too high in its pot. In middle of the root ball was still considerable amount of original soil brought with tree from mountains. During last few years I'm more careful when dealing with roots during repotting since I do not want to lose valuable trees. In spring I decided to partially remove some of this old soil from roots. Tree was taken out from pot and with help of bamboo stick old soil was loosened and removed. no washing out with water. Step by step I moved more into the core and found few bigger stones embedded in there. All were slowly removed without damaging roots. As it went so easily almost all of the old soil was removed. Finally tree was planted back into same pot since I had no suitable ceramic pot around. As you can see now tree is much deeper and you cannot see nebari now.
Than tree was sitting outside for a while and was not waking up even if there was the time I thought. Weather went crazy in late spring and night frosts were forecasted in late April. I was so afraid that I took this oak inside the house for few nights. Luckily with higher temperatures tree finally showed first leaves. When I had feeling tree is safe I made some editing on both trunks. Belt which was pulling smaller trunk towards bigger one was removed. Than smaller trunk moved back a bit and I have to pull it again later. On smaller trunk highest branch growing towards big trunk was removed and new transition was carved. Also top of the bigger trung was carved to have better transition. Then it was just watered and fertilised. Tree is growing slowly but it looks OK. I hope it will show more vigour next year since branch structure must be reworked and it could be done only with strong tree.

This is first post about this little oak this year. Tree survived well during winter but it dropped lower strange branch. Now stump must be carved and transferred to uro soon. Rest of the crown is dong well. In spring I made few not drastic adjustment of the roots and couple of strong roots were shortened. What I like on this tee is his great mikihada. I have seen this word on facebook recently. Did you know about bonsai glossary where you can find various bonsai terms from japanese language, worth visiting.

This little oak needed touch already. Few branches were removed and shortened. Tree is doing well during last heat waves we are experiencing in our area, but some leaves are damaged so I removed them. I'm not happy with amount of growth tree is generating this year. It needs repotting next spring definitely. I'm curious, what kind of pot You are suggesting?

It was time to cut back this oak tree during last days. I had no time to take decent picture with foliage, but believe me, crown was huge. On current pictures you can see result of defoliation and shoots reduction. Two branches with foliage are planned to use for thread graft in future. They must grow bit longer to do the job.
Today my blog went over 250.000 views. I would like to thank to all returning visitors for watching my bonsai journey. :)

Oak was bit overgrown and it was time to cut excess shoots. Leaf size is final now. Also one of the bottom branches was wired to get it into better position. There was other branch before but it dried during last year. Now it is better I think. You can find earlier pictures from this year here and here.
