Winter protection

It was time to protect the trees since winter will come sooner or later despite relatively mild weather in our area. My kids helped me again and they really enjoy covering trees with wood chips. I took pictures of few trees before they were covered.
Znova nastal čas zazimovať stromy aj keď počasie bolo doteraz mierne. Moje detičky mi statočne pomáhli a "pilinovanie" ich veľmi bavilo. Pred uložením na zimný spánok som odfotil pár stromov v jesennom šate.

Exibition of Bonsai Club Trnava in Sered 2013

On August 29th and 30th our club organized exhibition of trees and suiseki in city of Sereď. It was organized in Museum which used to be parsonage of Catholic church where used to live writer and priest Juraj Fándly for few years. My friends asked me to fill some gaps on shelves so I entered four of my trees there. We had Vlado&Alena Ondejcik there who had nice presentation of various tees together with degustation. We had very nice weather and atmosphere was good.

Vo štvrtok 29.augusta a v piatok 30.augusta náš Bonsai Klub Trnava organizoval výstavu stromov a susiseki v múzeu v Seredi.

Fraxinus No.1 after defoliation and wiring

This Fraxinus got new pot in April as you can see on older post here. As I wrote, tree is showing vigorous growth. Id did so after repotting through April and May. This year I tried to make defoliation on few trees for the first time. Honestly, I felt in love with this technique. On this Fraxinus I did partial defoliation around end of May or beginning of June. Leaves on this tree tend to be rather big. I'm pretty sure they get much smaller as ramification gets better with time. On end of June tree had completely grown leaves back. So I decided to make complete defoliation during club meeting on first July weekend. After that I wired whole tree as you can see on pictures. And on next few pictures you can see how tree reacted within 2 weeks. In present it has nice small leaves, unfortunately they will grow further, but that's fine. I get a lot of new branches in the crown as could be seen on pictures.

Betula No.1

Carpinus betulus No.10 after defoliation

Tree was wired completely as you can see on March 2013 picture. Wires went down by end of May since it started to bite into bark. At same time I did partial defoliation of the tree. It resulted in strong growth. Few days ago I removed long shoots. Now it has real tree silhouette again.

after collecting back in spring 2009

Carpinus betulus No.12 Wild Boar

This is another of my carpinus yamadori trees. As I was looking back in my blog this is probably first post about him. It was collected in early spring during my second collecting season in 2010. Tree is rather big as one can see from pictures. As most of my trees it was potted into Zeolit (4-8mm fr.) with some peat added. Due to its size plastic pot was deforming when carried in the garden. So I decided to pot it into ceramic pot this spring. Pot is unglazed training Chinese. Some major reduction was done with help of Lukas&Pepa Sirotny back in May 2010. Than I was consulting it with Walter Pall during his visit of my garden and he name it Wild Boar. I liked the strange name so I give it to the tree. Tree has long way to go and it will take 5-10 years to look decently.

Potom sme strom preberali s Waltrom Pallom počas jeho navstevy v moje záhradke a on ho nazval "Wild Boar" co znamená "Diviak".
