Carpinus betulus No.12 Wild Boar

This is another of my carpinus yamadori trees. As I was looking back in my blog this is probably first post about him. It was collected in early spring during my second collecting season in 2010. Tree is rather big as one can see from pictures. As most of my trees it was potted into Zeolit (4-8mm fr.) with some peat added. Due to its size plastic pot was deforming when carried in the garden. So I decided to pot it into ceramic pot this spring. Pot is unglazed training Chinese. Some major reduction was done with help of Lukas&Pepa Sirotny back in May 2010. Than I was consulting it with Walter Pall during his visit of my garden and he name it Wild Boar. I liked the strange name so I give it to the tree. Tree has long way to go and it will take 5-10 years to look decently.

Potom sme strom preberali s Waltrom Pallom počas jeho navstevy v moje záhradke a on ho nazval "Wild Boar" co znamená "Diviak".

Carpinus betulus No.11 - deadwood carving

During the weekend I was playing with Dremel on ugly stomp of the root pointing upwards on Hornbeam No.11. Wood must age for few years and will be brushed as usual.

Cez vikend som Dremelkou trocha upravoval koren na hrabe cislo 11.

Prunus spinosa

Update on Prunus spinosa, yamadori tree collected in spring 2010. This is only one sloe in my possession in present. A lot of dead wood work must be carried out. Big parts of trunk are already dead. I'm going to try it soon. As all my trees is in inorganic substrate, mixture of zeolit and Teramol with little peat added. Tree is showing extremely vigorous growth every season since collection.

Quercus pubescens No.4

Update on my oak. I dare to repot tree in April this year. Looks like it is doing fine. Pot is temporary plastic, but smaller. Next pot could be final in some time. Oak was collected in summer 2010. Potted in mix of Zeolith and Teramol, fed with Osmocote. Last year did well without mildew, protected only by biological home made garlic oil product.
On lower pictures development of healing of main wound on trunk. Looks like it will heal over this year.

Carpinus betulus No.11 in new pot

This tree is yamadori collected in 2010. It was doing well so far. After collecting it was potted into large plastic pot. During manipulation with quite large tree it proved not to be the best idea. So I decided to transplant it into better pot this spring. It was potted into mix of Zeolith with Teramol and in bottom of the pot Liapor was used to make it bit lighter. Into mixture I added Osmocote (2-3 month version). When dealing with roots I find problem with one of the larger roots. Chosen pot did not allow me to bury large roots on both sides so I had to decide which one will be uncovered. I'm not sure about chosen position, may be later I will come back to position similar to pictures from old plastic pot. Moss was added to cover surface, last year I was inspired by interesting blog post by Michael Hagedorn.

Dnes som k stromu pridal mach, zlepší to vlhkostné pomery vo vrchnej vrstve substrátu počas horúcich dní a vyzerá tak lepšie.
Hornbeam bonsai today. Moss added to improve visual appearance and protection of top level of substrate.
Root stomp visible, will be worked with Dremel later this year.

Fraxinus in new pot

During last weekend I did some repotting. One of trees who found new home was this fraxinus. It is collected yamadori tree; it is in my garden for some time now, 2 years or something like that. It has excellent taper and grows very vigorously. So I hope it will like new pot.

Má výbornú konicitu a rástol veľmi dobre.
