ACER PALMATUM

Couple of days difference and shoots were too long. Tree is showing strong vigour and pushing like crazy. I took scissors and cut the top quickly yesterday, shoots in top of the tree tend to thicken too fast. I tend to take cuttings from this maple all the time when I'm cutting it. From previous years I have ONE which is already about 2 cm thick. From last year, I put into substrate about 30 cuttings and it seems about 5-8 are still OK and are growing leaves. I slowly becoming maple addict so I definitely NEED more maple plants for the future. You know the feeling, right? :)

Fraxinus No.2

Tree is now showing fresh foliage after repotting last month. Patch of moss is there no due aesthetical reasons but to cover cutting spot on one of the larger roots, to keep place permanently moist. It could help create new roots on the spot. Soon growth will be too strong, leaves will be too big as is with Ash trees. I still have to do some branch editing but is too soon to weaken the tree right now. Bunch of ants is already occupying moss patch,  and they will bring some aphids as soon as they'll find some around. And then we will fight.

BTW, it is time to name the tree, I think it is good enough to have decent name, or "nickname". I thinking about it and I feel it is there in my mind, hidden somewhere. I just could not catch him yet. If you have any good idea which comes to your mind, leave me a comment. Thanks.

Carpinus betulus "RUSNAK" with fresh foliage

Tree now has foliage with size I wish was final, unfortunately it will grow much bigger now. If was just about right time to take few shots. Tree was not trimmed, since it was repotted month ago, I did not want to loose any of the branches. If growth is strong and even, branches will be edited later this spring.

ACER PALMATUM

Few shots of my maple with very fresh foliage. Recently I was thinking what cultivar it could be, if you are acer freak and you able to identify it from those pictures (or older blog posts - just open menu and click LABELS on left side, then click Acer palmatum and you see all posts) leave me your guess in the comment.

BTW, I changed template for the blog, let me know if you like it or not.

Thanks.

Larix decidua

Larch was partly wired few weeks ago, one side needs some more work. Couple of branches were removed. Now it is showing its fresh green needles.

Picea No.2

This tree was collected in woods in 2010, and its first styling took place in summer last year. Whole tree was wired then and some jin work was done as well.

Spruces could be sensitive to too much work so I was not removing all unnecessary branches back then. Now it is quite clear it is budding strongly so I think it is adapted after styling. There was one too long branch sticking out from future outline. Now it was removed so tree can use energy during this season in desired direction. Later this year some more branches will be removed or shortened.

before, branch on left side is too wide. Now it was removed.

April 2010. Shortly after collecting from wild. Potted into plastic pot into almost pure zeolite. Branches are sparse and long. They were shortened on transportation minimum, but still way  too long. All inner needles except news fell off in 2010.
