Crataegus monogyna 2.

This is hawthorn from spring this year. Tapering is not good but I like "snake" growth of trunks. :) It is doing the best of my howthorns if I consider also it is planted in rather small pot. It is about 1m high and each trunk is about 10cm wide at base.

Oaks for next spring

During this weekend I have been in woods to look for some trees. Originally I was going to look for a Juniper for immediate digging. But I have only found few oaks which I like. They have to wait till next spring. Two of them are on pictures.

Fagus sylavatica 2.

This is biggest beech I have collected in spring this year. I'm very happy it has survived till now., since only dead tree so far is also beech. I hope he will be OK and next year will wakeup after winter. I like hollow parts and movement of trunk. Nebari is not fantastic but this is possible to arrange somehow.
When I was digging this one I was thinking to remove long thin branch you can see on picture. It was good idea to leave it there as I find out in discussion with Croatian bonsai guys.
from discussion with Cajko on IBF:

"Do not ever cut all branches and buds on a beech tree. At least on a beech that you need to collect or repot. Beech needs big, strong, last years buds on branches, and branches can be shortened in a way that on every branch must remain at least couple of strong buds. That is my experience. Beech is a very strong grower if in full health and strength, caluses wounds very fast, and often puts out new buds from the calus. BUT, tolerates repotting and collecting very poorly. In a first year it is totally weak. Very complicated tree."

Shade

During summer I was shading trees with net, I thought its necessary during hot months. Today I decided to remove net and allow bit more sunshine pas to the trees.

First autumn colors

Surprisingly first color of autumn appear on my trees. Here are 2 pictures of Larix with needles turning yellow during last days. Last year I get this tree in October and needles was still green.
